BARBARA SEYMOUR JOINS CLAWSON AND STAUBES STARTING JULY 13

CHARLESTON, SC (July 13, 2017) — Barbara Seymour has joined the firm of counsel, practicing in the area of professional responsibility and legal ethics.

Seymour assists lawyers and law firms in ensuring ethical compliance, including conflicts analysis; advertising review; risk management assessment; trust account management training; and, departure and dissolution guidance. She handles cases involving lawyer and judicial disciplinary enforcement, Bar admission, and reinstatement. Seymour also provides opinions in legal malpractice matters. She will handle matters statewide from the Clawson and Staubes Columbia office at 1612 Marion Street, Suite 200.

Barbara’s principal office location in Columbia puts her in close proximity to the Supreme Court’s hearings on lawyer discipline cases and to the work of the Commission on Lawyer Conduct, but she has the ability to take appointments across the state.

“We are very excited to add Barbara to our growing team at Clawson and Staubes,” said Matt Story, managing member at Clawson and Staubes. “With more than 24 years of experience in litigation and legal ethics, she will add a new practice area to our firm and expand our capabilities to meet a wide variety of legal needs.”

Seymour earned her Bachelor’s degree in Management and Marketing from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1990. In 1993, she received her Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law. Seymour has worked as a trial lawyer in Greenville, SC and as the Deputy Disciplinary Counsel to the Supreme Court of South Carolina. She is a member of the South Carolina Bar, the Georgia Bar (inactive) and the South Carolina Women Lawyers Association.

Seymour was named the 2006 Law Related Education Lawyer of the Year. She was a 2006 and 2011 Fellow of the National Institute for the Teaching of Ethics and Professionalism. Seymour is the creator and coordinator of the Legal Ethics and Practice Program.

Growing Our Greenville Office

Clawson and Staubes, LLC is pleased to announce that Jenny L. Barwick has joined the firm. She will be practicing in the areas of Criminal and Family Law.

Jenny attended the University of South Carolina in Columbia, receiving her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science. She went on to receive her Juris Doctorate from the University Of South Carolina School Of Law and was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2007.

Upon graduation from law school, Mrs. Barwick completed a one-year judicial clerkship in Greenville with the Honorable John C. Few, Chief Judge of the South Carolina Court of Appeals. Mrs. Barwick also assisted Judge Few in teaching the rules of evidence and its many intricacies to law students. After her clerkship, Mrs. Barwick worked at the Thirteenth Circuit Solicitor’s Office, in both the Pickens and Greenville offices, for several years. During this time, Mrs. Barwick prosecuted hundreds of criminal cases and tried numerous trials involving murder, child homicide, child sexual abuse, drug law violations, violent crimes, theft, burglaries, domestic violence, and traffic offenses.

Seven attorneys receive distinguished award

Attorneys Sam Clawson and John “Jay” McDonald of Clawson and Staubes, LLC, were recently named 2016 Super Lawyers. Christy Fargnoli, Barrett Brewer, Trevor Cangelosi, Andrew Carson and Robb Brown were named Rising Stars, a list of the top up-and-coming lawyers in South Carolina.

Super Lawyers is a Thomson Reuters rating service that ranks outstanding lawyers in more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. Each year, no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in the state receive this honor. The annual service selections are made using a rigorous, multi-phased process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. The Rising Stars lists are published nationwide in Super Lawyers magazines and in leading city and regional magazines across the country.

Sam Clawson served as the managing member of Clawson and Staubes for 32 years and has been a Super Lawyer for eighth consecutive years. He also has an AV rating from Martindale-Hubbell. His primary areas of practice are mediation and focus group facilitation.
