Katherine W. Simons
Of Counsel

Office: 843-577-2026

Cell: 843-224-2410

Kathy has tried many cases before judges and juries in South Carolina courts over the last twenty years. She currently limits her practice to Guardian ad Litem work in custody cases.

She graduated from the University of South Carolina Honors College in 1987 with a double major in English and French and a minor in music. She earned a Juris Doctorate in 1990 from the University of South Carolina. After clerking for the Hon. William T. Howell of Walterboro, Kathy joined the Berkeley County Solicitor’s office in 1991. She tried many kinds of criminal cases including criminal sexual conduct and other crimes where children were victims. In so doing, she developed a sense of what children go through when they are thrust into situations beyond their control and maturity level. She also became familiar with local resources available to benefit children. She joined Clawson & Staubes in 1995.

Kathy is married and lives in Mt. Pleasant with her husband Carlton and four children. She is a charter member of a group of mothers who have children with autism and is a co-founder of Camp Learning Fun (a camp for children with autism and typical peers). She has been active in autism advocacy, including her work with Lorri Shealy Unumb, Esq who wrote a ground-breaking autism insurance bill which passed in 2007. She is a past member of the Board of Trustees for YMCA, the Board of Trustees for Porter-Gaud School, and the Charleston Symphony Orchestra’s chorus. She enjoys gardening, flower arranging, and writing.
